Baghdadi had suffered life- threatening injuries during an aistrike by the US-led coalition in March but was making slow recovery. An Iraqi official, Hisham al-Hashimi who advises Baghdad on ISIA confirmed that the ISIS Leader was wounded in al-Baaj near the village of Umm al-Rous in the airstrike on March 18.

Baghdadi, born in 1971, apparently joined the revolution that began after the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq and in October 2011, he was designated as a terrorist by the US Treasury who put up a $10-million bounty for his capture.
