The acquisition of properties for Hyderabad Metro Rail has gained pace. 45 properties are at cheque disbursement stage for 100 properties. The acquisition process is nearing completion and 13 Government Vested Municipal properties (GVM) are to be acquired by the end of May. This was informed in the Special Task Force (STF) meeting conducted by Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma on Tuesday.

With the demolition and acquisition of properties gaining speed, the pace of Metro works in critical stretches like Secunderabad Railway station area, Yousufguda, Musheerabad and Jubilee Hills has increased. Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma, while reviewing the traffic permissions to L&TMRHL for excavation of foundations in Metro Rail carriageway, directed L&TMRHL to remove the barricading immediately after the foundation works are completed and re-carpet the road.

Rajiv Sharma emphasised that maintenance and upkeep of the carriageway in the stretches where the works are completed shall be a prime priority for L&TMRHL. The properties being demolished include eight Railway properties measuring about 2 acres near Secunderabad Railway Station for which about Rs 45 crore was paid by HMR to SC Railway; six properties in Yousufguda (1,550 sq. yards - Rs. 2367 cr); Nandini cafe/Gowtham Reddy property at Jubilee Hills Check Post (598 sq yards – Rs 5.30 cr); five properties opposite Vijayabhaskar Reddy Stadium at Yousufguda (400 sq yards – Rs 2 Cr); front portion of Ashok Yadav building at Madhapur (169 sq yards); Bombay Bar & Restaurant, Nampally (88 sq. yds) and properties from Secunderabad Clock Tower to Secunderabad Station road (400 sq yards - Rs 5 Cr).

Acquisition of some of these properties like Nandini cafe, which is required for construction of Metro Rail viaduct in a sharp curve, was held up for the last four years due to extraneous factors and prolonged litigation. The HMR MD further informed that demolition of Jabbar Building, Chintawar building and SBH building on Begumpet Road are nearing completion.
