Its time for action not speeches: KCR

Hyderabad: Chief Minister and TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday said that the drought-affected areas in South and North Telangana districts would be freed of water crisis by completing all pending projects in a time-bound manner. Addressing a mammoth public meeting on the occasion of formation day of the party, Rao said that of late his speeches were not fiery and lacked the kind of punch one used to witness during agitation since the time for such speeches was over.

Now the government and the people have to strive for creating ‘Bangaru Telangana’. “It is time for action not speeches,” the Chief Minister said.“Bangaru Telangana does not mean increasing gold reserves. Smile and happiness should be reflected on the face of every Telanganite when one sees them,” he said.

Lashing out at the opposition parties, Rao challenged them to prove the allegations they were levelling against the government. Telangana government was the only one which was spending Rs 28,000 crore for welfare schemes. He said he was open for a discussion on the priorities of the government. No previous government had shown so much concern for welfare activities like pensions, ration, fine rice and other schemes. In fact, no other state in the country has earmarked so much amounts in budget for benefit of the poor, he said.

Referring to the irrigation projects, KCR said completion of the pending projects would start from Palamuru lift irrigation scheme in Mahbubnagar district and Nakkalagandi project in Nalgonda for which he would lay foundation stone next week. The two projects would address water crisis in South Telangana while in North Telangana, all the projects, including SRSP, Lendi and other pending schemes would be taken up ensuring regular water supply for irrigation and drinking purpose.

He called upon the opposition parties to refrain from creating inter-state disputes on the use of Krishna and Godavari water. Telangana State would utilise its due share of water from the two rivers, he said. Rao’s speech referred to various flagship schemes of the government like Mission Kakatiya, Drinking Water Grid, Aasaara pensions, Shaadi Mubaarak and Kalyana Lakshmi schemes among others.

In an effort to appease a few sections over delay in implementation of few electoral promises, Rao stated that his government had prepared action plans to fulfill them in the next two years. KG to PG free education scheme would be rolled out from next academic year, regularization of contract jobs and notifications for over 2 lakh new jobs would be done as soon as Kamalanathan panel completed staff distribution, he pointed out.

With High Court giving Telangana government time till December to conduct GHMC elections, KCR took the opportunity to reach out to voters in the twin cities. He asked their support to transform the ‘irregular’ Hyderabad into a global city along the lines of Dallas and Singapore in the next two to three years.
