Popular film actor and director R Narayana Murthy, who attended the inaugural function as the chief guest said that theatre art was a powerful medium to spread the social message. He exhorted writers and directors to strive to enlighten society through their playlets. Noted actor and director A Venkateswara Rao was felicitated on the occasion.

Film director MV Raghu, corporator K Mallikharjuna Yadav and Nagarjuna Kala Parishad president Devineni Kishore were present. Kalamanjari of Vijayawada staged playlet ‘Avunu Valliddaru Kashtapaddaru’, written by Veerla Varaprasad on the first day of the contest. Director Venigalla Bhaskar played the main character Malakondaiah in the social playlet which cast M Vijayakumar, B Malleswara Patnaik, Rallapalli Ananta Krishna, Suryadevara Jagannadha Rao and PVL Nrusimham. The valedictory of the contest will be held on Wednesday.
