Gang of 5 treasure-hunters nabbed in Nallamala forest
Treasure-hunters after entering the Nallamala forest have become so audacious to enquire from the patrolling Forest department staff about the areas where hidden treasures could be lying. They are active in the Tiger Zone looking at treasures on one side and hunting wildlife as they enjoy the backing of a notorious smuggler from North India who concentrates on procuring tiger nails. Officials have secured proof of the activities of such gangs in the forest.

A five-member gang was nabbed on Thursday after targeting ancient temples and structures by the Wildlife Forest Division. An ACF arrested them and produced in the court. The magistrate sent the five to remand. It is an open secret in Kurnool district that a prominent Telugu Desam Party leader heads 12 such gangs. Because of his sound financial position and ruling party post, officials are allegedly scared to take action against him. Top officials are aware of his important post at the State level.
The five gang members Maheshwar Reddy, Allarayya, Bhaskar, Bhasha and Chandra were caught on Thursday in Nagulooti Forest Range near Chenchugudem while they were moving in suspicious circumstances. The Forest staffers gave them a chase and caught the members virtually in the act.
The gang was digging near the stairs of Veerabhadra Temple looking for hidden treasure. They were identified as those from Allagadda, Diguvamettu, Ayyalurimetta and Nandyal areas. Their main activity was to unearth hidden treasures from ancient temples. Such gangs use latest implements, metal detectors and scanners in the forest areas to locate treasures, allegedly in collusion with the local politicians and lower-level Forest Department staff.
