Contrived all the way. It has been proved time and again that sequels don’t work in Tollywood. And same is the case with this sequel – or prequel as they say – of the hit con drama ‘Swamy Ra Ra’.

It has been proved time and again that sequels don’t work in Tollywood. And same is the case with this sequel – or prequel as they say – of the hit con drama ‘Swamy Ra Ra’. Here’s a film that is heavily banking on the success of its predecessor but lacks both the charm and the content that it was rich in.

Still from 'Mosagallaku Mosagadu'

Comedy as a genre is a very tough one to crack and it seems Tollywood has comedy added in every possible genre. There’s horror comedy, family entertainer laced with comedy and then an action film packed comedy. Yes. That’s definitely an overdose but we are learning to live with it.

One wonders why every film needs to have the commercial aspects weaved in. When will we finally be able to get pure cinema that only wants to be true to what its goal is? Ah! How cinema makes some of us a tad emotional.

Coming back to this flick, no denying the director wanted to tell an interesting tale. Like most directors, his script had promising elements. But just like we see every other Friday, he fails in the execution department, leaving you disappointed. The biggest flaw of this flick is the pace.

While the first half goes at a turtle’s speed, the second half is just tightened by inclusion of some comic bits. We reiterate that the comedy track is an unnecessary addition but the second half, over here, survives only due to it.

Con dramas need to be racy – an element which is nowhere to be seen in this drama. Also the love track is unnecessarily dragged out. Nearly 45 minutes into the film, you wish the track was scraped off! Performance wise, Sudheer Babu shows a steadily rising graph.

He looks stylish and manages to carry the film on his shoulders. Nandini Rai is there but isn’t given enough meat to explore. On the whole, ‘Mosagallaku Mosagadu’ doesn’t live up to the hype. While we do not really recommend this, it wouldn’t really be a bad idea to watch it on a hot summer afternoon and chill in those A/C halls!
