TRS is rival No. 1, says BJP

New Delhi: Going by the mood of the central leadership of the BJP, there is little chance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi sending any "invite" to the TRS to join the Union Cabinet and "become partners in progress". Sources in the party said there was no idea of wooing the TRS as Telangana remained one of the seven States in which the BJP was planning to walk a lonely path.

“We treat TRS as our rival and we continue to fight it at all levels. If we have not launched a hard campaign against it till date, it is more because the time is not right to do so. TRS still has people's sympathy. We need to consolidate in Hyderabad first and then span out," the sources said.

The strategy of the BJP on Telangana is quite simple: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's elections are the top priority for it at present. Gains here would go a long way in the party's consolidation in the rest of the State, the party feels.Strategists feel that consolidation in the GHMC elections was paramount to the party as it covers 24 Assembly segments.

"In Andhra Pradesh, we seek to expand our space. It is a healthy rivalry there. There is no room for confrontation even in the immediate future. But Telangana is a different proposition altogether. We fight the TRS and fight it hard. We do not have to make new friends in Telangana.

Hence, the question of our inviting K Kavita to join the Cabinet does not arise. Obviously, she cannot join without our invitation. It is not a choice that rests with her or her party," the sources clarified bringing curtains down on the speculation.
