DR. K.V. Rao Scientific Society presented its 15th Annual Science Awards in a function held on Saturday at IICT Auditorium, Tarnaka. The event was based on the theme “Friendship with Science”. The awards function had programmes that showcased how various media like dance, skit or toys can used to undertand science. Also presentations called “Integration of Science and Art” and “Fun with Science Toys” were also held.

Hyderabad: DR. K.V. Rao Scientific Society presented its 15th Annual Science Awards in a function held on Saturday at IICT Auditorium, Tarnaka. The event was based on the theme “Friendship with Science”. The awards function had programmes that showcased how various media like dance, skit or toys can used to undertand science. Also presentations called “Integration of Science and Art” and “Fun with Science Toys” were also held.


The prizes were given under several categories. Some of them include School Talent Awards; Science Quiz Awards; “SPARK” Science Fair Awards; Science Debate Awards and Young Scientist Awards. The Science Quiz awards conducted for school children of VIII to XII were bagged by E Sai Nived, K. Chandra Lalita, Pranav Mihir Kandada and Arjun S Kallpur. The winners received Rs 4000 each and the runner up team members took home Rs 3000 each.


Around 800 students participated in the event. The School Talent Awards conducted in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Science and Technology(APCOST) too were presented. A merit certificate and a scholarship of Rs 5000 per annum for the entire duration of schooling were given to Shaik Muzammil Pasha, B. Suma, A. Hari Sri Jayanth, Ch Vishnu Priya, L. Geethika Patnaik and T Divya.


Over 90 teams from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu competed for the SPARK – Awards for Science Fair. A total of six awards were given in two categories. The top three teams were given away cash prizes of Rs.10,000, Rs.7.500 and Rs.5,000 respectively in each category.


The winners of APAR include N. Ahladita and JV Mdhana Team; A Manasa and S. Sathya Veni team; K. Tarun Reddy and G. Vishal Baradwaj and B. Snehit Reddy Team; P. Dheeraj and Ayush Chauhan Team; Mohammad Nasear Ahmed, V. Roshan Raju, Prashanth Nikhi Team; S. Dharun Kumar, J. Mothilal Rathnam, S. Saravanan Teams bagged the awards.


A science debate was also conducted this year, in which students from three different schools were invited to participate. Over 50 students participated in the competition. Anjan Sriahri, S. Abhinav Team; Anindhya Jha, K. Nikhil Kumar were given awards. Anindhya Jha and K. Nikhil Kumar bagged the awards in the categories of the Best Speaker Runner Up and Winner respectively in the Science Debate Best Speaker Category.


Research Awards are given each year to young scientists below 30years of age in the fields of mathematics, physics, biology and chemistry. The awardees include K Ambika, B. Pradeep, Kuladeep Rajamudili; Ahin Roy; K Kamali; Jaya Krishnan, K. Venkat Raghavan, Preethi Sheshadri, J. Deepa, M. Madhumala, A. Srinivas, Manish Kumar Mishra, M. Sreekanth. More than 90 research students from various research institutes and organisations applied for these awards this year.


The winners in each category were given rupees twenty thousand and other selected research students got Rs. 10,000 each.The event was graced by Sourav Pal, Director of CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune and Ahmed Kamal, Director of Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad.
