RTC board meeting deferred again
The APSRTC Board meeting slated for Monday to discuss the issue of bifurcation of the corporation into AP and Telangana units has been put off. Bus Bhavan sources said the Chief Secretaries of the two States are likely to write to the Centre requesting the Union Surface Transport and Highways Ministry to intervene and resolve the issue of disproportionate representation of the board members.
Board has only two members from Telangana and it is feared that this could create problems in asset sharing

The board has 15 members and out of them, only two are from Telangana and this could result in problems while sharing the assets of the corporation. As per the procedure, the board meeting will have to pass a resolution to divide the corporation and send it to the Centre for its approval,As the post of chairman of APSRTC is currently vacant, following resignation of M Satyanarayana Rao, who was a nominee of the previous Congress government, Vice- chairman and Managing Director N Sambasiva Rao will officiate as Chairman of the Board.
Apart from Sambasiva Rao and Joint MD GV Ramana Rao and the four Executive Directors (EDs) working in the Bus Bhavan, the Board has few other ex-officio members. They include - Special Chief Secretary (Transport) B Sam Bob, Special Chief Secretary (Finance) PV Ramesh, Principal Secretary (Labour) G Anantha Ramu, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of South Central Railway (SCR), Chief Engineer (R& B) and one nominee of the Central government.
The Board has two directors representing the workers’ unions, namely K Padmakar Rao (Employees’ Union) and Boodati Rajaiah (INTUC). Though Padmakar Rao has resigned from the board during the height of workers’ strike for 43 per cent fitment, his resignation has not been accepted so far.
Only two directors in the board- JMD Ramana Rao and ED (HRD and Medical) M Ravinder - hail from Telangana. Speaking to The Hans India, Padmakar Rao said, “A resolution was passed on May 15, 2015 by the RTC management to constitute separate boards for AP and Telangana divisions.
The two State governments could have constituted separate boards with the consent of the Governor. Postponing the board meeting in the name of lesser representation to Telangana is only a delaying tactic.” According to Bus Bhavan sources, the board meeting may take place on May 27.
