Hyderabad: A 42-year-old businessman committed suicide after his financiers threatened to kill his wife and son if he fails to return money which he took for his rice business. The deceased, V Srinivas, was found dead in a room of Saptagiri Lodge in Nacharam police limits on Saturday evening. Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that Srinivas of Kasturi Colony, LB Nagar, had borrowed money from five persons to start rice business.

However, he incurred heavy losses and was unable to return money to the financiers K Venkatesh, Krishnaiah, Santosh Kumar, Komaraiah and Machender Reddy. Through one of his relative, the financiers reportedly conveyed a message to Srinivas that his wife and son would be killed if he does not return their money immediately. Felt threatened, Srinivas checked into the lodge and committed suicide by consuming poison. The Nacharam police registered a case under Section 306 IPC against the financiers and have begun investigation.

Tree falls on car, one dead

One person died and eight others received injuries when a banyan tree (marri chettu) fell on the car in which they were traveling on Sunday. According to locals, a huge tree suddenly fell on the Tavera car, which was proceeding towards Hyderabad from Vikarabad at Kesaram Gate in Chevella mandal in Ranga Reddy district. A person, who was in the car, died on the spot and eight persons received injuries. The local people shifted the injured to Chevella Hospital for treatment. Traffic was jammed for two kilometres after the tree fell on the road. Drive against drunken driving, 58 held In a drive against drunken driving, the police have registered cases against 58 persons in the twin cities.
