The legacy of Chauhan. After a gap of three years, Sumadhura Kalaniketan has resumed its monthly cultural programmes with a historical play at Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College in the city on Saturday.

Scenes from the play ‘Prithviraj’

Sri Saibaba Natya Mandali of Dr Raman Foundation staged ‘Prithviraj’, the life history of Rajput king of the Chauhan dynasty who ruled Ajmer and Delhi from 1149 to 1192 AD. Writer and director of the play PVN Krishna also acted as Chand Bardai, the court poet of Prithviraj, who composed the epic poem Prithviraj Raso.

The play highlighted the velour of Prithviraj. LSRK Prasad played the lead role of Prithviraj well. MS Choudary (Muhammad Ghori), M Venkateswarlu (Qutubuddin Aibak), Ch Jagadeesh (Jaichand) and D Mounika (Samyukta) won appreciation from the audience by excelling in their roles. Music for the play was composed by B Gangadhara Rao.

Speaking on the occasion, Sumadhura Kalaniketan president S Narasaraju and organising secretary P Suryanarayana Murthy said that the organisation has resumed its monthly programmes to promote art and culture in the city.
