8 kg gold seized at RGIA

Hyderabad: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 8 kg of gold from two passengers who arrived at Shamshabad Airport by Emirates flight on Monday morning. M A Gafoor, 22, was arrested immediately after the gold was found near his seat. Another person Shaik Jaffer, 20, resident of Shamshabad was also arrested.

Later, officials of DRI took up the matter and began investigation to find out if any personnel working at Airport were involved in smuggling of gold. They took into custody GMR employees Bhaskar Reddy and Ramineedu, suspecting them to be part of the racket. However, the Chief Security Officer, Bharat Kumar expressed ignorance that his staff working under Customs Department were involved in smuggling.
