The art and culture scene of the city seems to be building up with citizens are being treated to a series of art and paint exhibitions. This scenario has brought smiles and cheer among artists in the city who are now working hard to put up their works at various expos and win appreciations.

One such is BSV Ramesh, an art teacher by profession, who started the Machilipatnam Art Academy (MAA), to encourage the budding artists and teach them the basics of painting. Ramesh has been in the industry of colour, art, vision and brush for more than 30 years and has been training school and college students in different forms of painting.

His works were put up for the Group Art Show being held at Aakriti Art Gallery and Malaxmi Chambers. Speaking about what art means to him, Ramesh said, “One should have a vision for what he/she gets inspired from, in order to reflect it on the canvas.

Drawing basics of perception, colour, shade, shadow and highlight have to be taught to the beginners before they could set off to start. The port town Machilipatnam has been a popular place for art exhibitions earlier.”

“We all grew up learning from the exhibited paintings before foraying into mainstream teaching and painting. Today’s generation has to be taught because they could encourage the future,” he added. He believes that change in the ideology of parents could enhance the view of looking at painting as a profession.

“Painting is not like any other hobby, it requires time, effort and passion,” opines Ramesh has organised many painting exhibitions to encourage the children in the academy and at school besides authoring a book titled ‘Chitrakala Darsini’, which explains about the local stalwart painters, the model papers for drawing examination and basic techniques. Nearly 30 of his works along with that of his students’ were put for an expo at the Aakriti Art Gallery in the city.
