Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari on Tuesday reiterated that 50 per cent of the seats in the National Institute of Technology-Warangal (NIT-W) belong to Telangana only. The Education Minister said as per National Institute of Technology Act, 50 per cent of the seats were reserved for the locals.

“As per the Act, NIT-W is in Telangana and 50 per cent seats belong to locals only. We presented the same to the Union Human Resource Ministry,” Kadiyam added. Kadiyam stated that Article 371-D would not be applicable to the national institutes. “The NITs are established with the separate Act and Article 371-D is applicable to only the educational institutes which are under the purview of the State government. If Centre meddles with it, the Supreme Court will strike down the same,” he reiterated.
