CPW to get 58 acres in capital region. The Southern Region – I of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) of the Central government would get 58 acres in the new capital city – Amaravati –to build offices for the Central government staff.
The Southern Region – I of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) of the Central government would get 58 acres in the new capital city – Amaravati –to build offices for the Central government staff. The new region was created with Vijayawada as headquarters for the CPWD after bifurcation.
Disclosing this to the media persons at an event held on Thursday, the CPWD additional director general P P Srinivasan, said that they would build the accommodation for all Central government employees in new capital. The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) agreed to allocate 58 acres in Amaravati and would take a decision shortly.
Srinivasan said that they have already taken up construction of campus for the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) in Vijayawada on nine acres of land. “The project was taken up at a cost of Rs 148.03 crore,” he added. The CPWD had also constructed several buildings in Acharya Nagarajuna University in Guntur, Damodaram Sanjeevaiah National Law University at Visakhapatnam and other establishments.
The CPWD had over Rs 318.44 crore worth of construction works on hands in Andhra Pradesh, while proposals worth another Rs 293.98 crore are under consideration. “They have completed works of Rs 172.98 crore in the State,” he said. The CPWD would also be constructing the institutions like IIIT, IIT, IISER, NIT, IIM, AIIMS and Central University for Andhra Pradesh.
In addition, the department would also be constructing the Agriculture University in Guntur, Marine Police Headquarters and Marine Police Training Center, both at Machilipatnam, renovation of King George Hospital at Visakhapatnam and Regional Passport Office in Vijayawada. The CPWD chief engineer Rajesh Mittal and other officials were present at the media conference.
