Nissan exports 5 lakh Made In India cars in 5 years. Five years after commencing export operations from its Chennai based facility, Nissan India has hit another milestone by exporting 5,00,000 ‘Made In India’ vehicles to over 106 countries.

Five years after commencing export operations from its Chennai based facility, Nissan India has hit another milestone by exporting 5,00,000 ‘Made In India’ vehicles to over 106 countries. The Japanese auto giant is currently the third largest exporter in the country after Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki during the previous fiscal; while the Micra commanded 73 percent of total exports from the company’s stable. The other cars that Nissan exports include the Sunny mid-size sedan and the Datsun GO entry-level hatchback.

In the financial year 2014-15, Nissan India shipped 1,20,331 vehicles (1,91,221 by Hyundai and 1,21701 by Maruti) to countries including Europe, Middle East, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Africa. Europe is Nissan India’s largest export market with 70 percent of the export volume, followed by the Middle East that contributes 20 percent. The automaker exports 65 percent of its total production from India and the rest is for the domestic market.

In addition to completely built units, Nissan also exports 1800 different types manufacturing parts to 34 plants across 24 countries. The automaker along with its alliance partner Renault made a total investment of Rs. 4500 crores on the Oragadam facility, near Chennai with export operations helping the company optimally utilizing the manufacturing capacity of the plant. The automaker also stated that the plant has given the opportunity to showcase Indian production quality on a global stage and expands the scope for widening the export base for India built cars.
