In connection with the 93rd birthday celebrations of the founder president of Telugu Desam Party and former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, N T Rama Rao, a blood donation camp was organised on the premises of Gitam Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Hospital on Thursday. More than 250 students and staff of Gitam Educational Institutions participated in the blood donation programme.


B V Mohan Rao, secretary of Gitam Institutions, gave away certificates of blood donations to all the donors. Addressing the meeting organised in this connection, Professor M Gangadhar Rao recalled that Gitam Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Hospital has been developed with 750 beds to extend medical services to the people of North Andhra in addition to the people of Odisha and Chhattisgarh states. He said that the hospital has 18 operation theatres and 100 beds in the ICU.


He said that apart from free consultation for the poor, thirty per cent concession in all laboratory tests and ten per cent concession on drugs is also being extended. The high standards of diagnostic tests are authenticated by AIIMS, New Delhi and Christian Medical College, Vellore, he added.


Dr C V Rao, director of the hospital, said blood bank is established in the hospital for the benefit of the patients in emergency cases. He said that super-specialty services of cardiology, nephrology, gastroenteritis, pulmonary diseases and neurology are also extended in the hospital. He said that free transportation facility for the neighbouring villages is also available. Professor D Harinarayana, Register Prof M Potaraju, hospital superintendent Dr Varalakshmi Blood Bank in-charge Dr Anju Chowdary, the hospital staff and others were present.
