Hyderabad: After USA, Telangana Minister for Information Technology K T Rama Rao is all set to woo hardware majors in Taiwan and Hong Kong.Speaking at the meet-the-press, KTR said he would be visiting Taiwan and Hong Kong from June 3 to impress upon the hardware industry there to invest in the state.


Expressing that ‘Brand Hyderabad’ is gaining world over and intended to ride on its popularity, Rao said Hyderabad is not just the Greater Hyderabad limits, it covers entire area covering HMDA stretching to four districts. “We will use the image of Hyderabad in order to attract the investors across the globe, since the capital city is known world over than Telangana,” he said.


KTR said, unlike general opinion, the government had maintained the ‘cosmopolitan fabric’ of Hyderabad besides strictly controlled the law and order situation in the city. Referring to his US trip, KTR narrated that it is highly successful and could garner an investment of about Rs 3,000 crore. “I met with about 31 industrialists and technologist. CEOs of Google, Amazon, DE Shaw and Microsoft have agreed to set up their shops in Hyderabad.”


“The trip helped me to have a direct contact with the CEOs of top 10 IT companies in the world. Majority of them have links with Hyderabad and ready to establish firm links again.” “Our mission is to make Hyderabad as a global destination for IT and Hardware in the next five years,” he said with confidence.


Being IT minister, Rao fixed a target to double the IT exports to Rs 1,20,000 crore from its present Rs 57,000 crore, in the next five years. KTR further revealed that the state government is all set to release the industrial policy in the coming few days. Without disclosing the features, he said the government has identified about 14 thrust sectors including food processing, IT, life sciences, aerospace etc. While IT, life sciences and aerospace are earmarked for Hyderabad, the remaining 11 sectors will be established in each of the district separately.

Besides, the government also proposes to set up a IT tower exclusive for the benefit of small and medium IT companies. It will be establish near Gachibowli, where about 11 acres land is earmarked for the purpose, he added. Telangana government is planning to host a global investors' meet in February-March next year, Rao said adding that many investment proposals are likely to be sealed during the meet.
