Public and relatives of patients thronging various government hospitals in twin-cities have reasons to rejoice from June. The Telangana Government is taking steps to install Wi-Fi at Gandhi Hospital, NIMS (Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences) and ENT Hospital, Koti, soon.

Steps are being taken to arrange dozens of Wi-Fi hotspots in the premises of these hospitals so that users could keep abreast of latest developments and happenings in the world besides browsing websites of their choice just by logging in to this service from their smartphones.

Not only the general public, even the medical fraternity, medical students and doctors, who stay in hospitals, 24X7, could also avail these facilities. And obviously they are overjoyed. The Telangana Government Doctors Association hailed the government for this decision.

Users can avail this wireless service with speeds @ 10 mbps free of cost for first 30 minutes (each day), but those who wish to browse for extended periods should buy prepaid recharge vouchers. According to authorities, the prices have been competitively packaged providing highest quality of speed with unquestionable security.

Wi-Fi at Charminar from Tuesday

Meanwhile, plans are afoot to inaugurate Wi-Fi services at Charminar, Public Gardens, Birla Mandir, Birla Planetarium and Birla Science Museum coinciding with state formation day, falling on June 2. Mecca Masjid, Taramati Baradari, Abids GPO, Plaza Hotel and some other landmarks will be added to this list in the coming days, informed IT department officials.

This is part of IT Minister K Tarakarama Rao’s challenging initiative to make entire Hyderbad Wi-Fi enabled by the end of this year. Hyderabad will get the tag of first city in the country to boast full Wi-Fi connectivity once this project gets completed. Government of Telangana in association with BSNL and Quadgen Wireless Solutions (WIFI infrastructure Provider) is working on this project.

It may be recalled that KTR inaugurated a pilot Wi-Fi project covering the Tank Bund stretch of 5 to 6 kilometres on April 16. People in the vicinity of Tank Bund, NTR Marg and Necklace Road were availing this service ever since. This initiative is the precursor to making Hyderabad a Smart City – joining the league of international cities such as San Francisco, Barcelona, London etc.

The Telangana Government is planning to provide Wi-Fi services at over 2,000 locations in twin cities and about 50 villages in Telangana in Phase 1 in the next six months.
