Atmakur: The famous Sangameswara Temple, located at the confluence of seven rivers in this mandal, which remains under the Krishna flood water eight months in a year is now visible as the water in Srisailam reservoir came to dead-storage level. The Sangameswara Temple, situated under the confluence of the seven rivers Krishna, Veni, Thunga, Bhadra, Malapaharini, Bheemaradhi and Bhawanasini has resurfaced. Along with this popular temple, another 12 theerthas (holy places) and 8 kshetras have also resurfaced.

Legend has it that the Sivalingam, made of wood, at the temple was believed to have been installed by the eldest of the Pandava princes’ Dharmaraja during the Dwapara Yuga after taking the darshan of Lord Mallikarjuna along with his four brothers and offering prayers at Srisailam.
