Rajahmundry: Controversy raged on Saturday over denial of award to social play “Komaram Bheem” at Nandi Natakotsavam which concluded here. Actors from the social play “Komaram Bheem” accused the organisers of bias against Telangana artistes. The artistes raised slogans against the judges. The judges, who were all senior citizens, could not appreciate the toil that went into making the social play on Komaram Bheem who fought against the tyranny of the rulers.

An artiste, Murali, from Hyderabad flayed the jury for being biased against the social play because it originated from Telangana State. Not only Komaram Bheem, four other good plays staged by Hyderabad artistes too, were ignored, he said. Meanwhile, film actor Ali criticised the police for obstructing him from going onto the stage. He said he had felt offended by the police action. Local MP M Muralimohan tried to pacify him.
