Hyderabad: In what could be a classic example of gross negligence on the part of the authorities, residents of NTR Colony, ST, BC and Muslim colonies under Moinabad mandal have been going without drinking water for the last 42 days. Over 1000 households in these colonies had to get along with the sever summer days purchasing water, as the one or two water tankers being sent from the local panchayat were not able to meet their daily needs.

Speaking to The Hans India, Ravi, a driver from the NTR Colony said that “we have not faced water shortage like this at any time in last two decades." Giving reason for the problem, he said that there was a complaint from someone that drain water was seeping into the drinking water pipes. The local sarpanch had ordered the removal of water pipes to lay a new pipeline.

However, there was no progress in the works to lay the new pipe line resulting in complete stoppage of drinking water supply and residents having to purchase drinking water at the peak of summer. Azam from Muslim colony said that water tankers were being sent once or twice a week from the Panchayat Office.

This is not sufficient; hence the people have no other way but buy water from private sources. Pitching in Ramaswamy, a tailor said there was a fault in the freshly laid pipeline causing breach at several stretches. Because of this the supply has been halted, he said.

Notwithstanding all these, the reality is that there is none to listen to us and take necessary action and resolve the issue. We continue to suffer with no drinking water, the residents complain.
