In order to mark a grand start to his much-touted green mission, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday requested President Pranab Mukherjee to launch ‘Telanganaku Haritha Haaram’, a massive plantation programme on July 3 in Nalgonda district. In a letter to the President, he requested him to launch the prestigious people-centric programme from the popular pilgrim centre in the State, Yadagirigutta.

Hyderabad: In order to mark a grand start to his much-touted green mission, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday requested President Pranab Mukherjee to launch ‘Telanganaku Haritha Haaram’, a massive plantation programme on July 3 in Nalgonda district. In a letter to the President, he requested him to launch the prestigious people-centric programme from the popular pilgrim centre in the State, Yadagirigutta.

The Chief Minister said he was pleased to inform the President that government of Telangana had taken up, among other flagship programmes, a massive tree plantation programme christened as ‘Telanganaku Haritha Haaram’ with an objective of improving green cover, maintaining ecological balance and to ensure sustainable livelihoods. As part of this programme, the Chief Minister said it was proposed to plant 230 crore saplings over three years period, both within the reserve forest to improve forest density and outside the forest to promote greenery and also increase incomes for farmers.

The Chief Minister further said the community participation in the programme as a green movement was the highlight of this approach. For the current year, 39.60 crore saplings had been raised, which were ready for planting from the first week of July, the Chief Minister added. Chandrashekar Rao, in his letter, said the President’s participation would add more significance to the programme and would enthuse all sections of the society to actively participate in it.
