AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa was returned to the Tamil Nadu assembly on Tuesday by a record victory margin from the Radkhakrishnan Nagar constituency in Chennai.

Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa returned to the Tamil Nadu assembly on Tuesday with a record victory margin from the Radkhakrishnan Nagar constituency in Chennai.


With a massive margin, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa won her election to the state legislature and defeated her rival, C Mahendran of the Left with more than 1.5 lakh votes in the constituency of RK Nagar.


Supporters showed their enthusiasm outside Ms Jayalalithaa's residence in Chennai and stated that the result proved that nobody believed their leader was guilty of corruption.


Ms Jayalalithaa was acquitted in May in a corruption case dating back to her first term as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Her acquittal let to quitting the office as a lower court found her guilty of collecting wealth that was not calculated as per her sources of income which intended to her being disqualified immediately as an elected representative.


However, the High Court in Karnataka reversed the verdict where the trial was moved to ensure it would be free of the politics of Tamil Nadu.
