The custom-made calendar of cloth was smoothed with calender. The calendar followed all over the world is usually the Gregorian calendar but there are also other calendars used by the people according to their religions. Muslim calendar is different from Gregoran calendar; Hindu calendar differs from Gregorian calendar.

Calendar and calender are pronounced similarly but they have completely different meanings. Calendar is a chart, or series of pages that shows the days, weeks, and months of a year. Calendar is a table that shows the divisions and subdivisions of year: days, weeks, and months. Calendar is a timetable of appointments or events in a person’s life especially for those in public and corporate life.

Sweden has a names’ calendar. The names’ calendar has biblical names of people and they are celebrated on a particular day in addition to the biological birthdays. There are calendars that also give seasonal information, movements and lengths of the sun and the moon.

There are Hindu calendars giving the information on what time to step out of the house, at which date and at what time to start an important thing such as a ceremony or ritual, at what time to see one’s wife and not among others. Grammatical variants of calendar are two adjectives: calendric and calendrical.

Calendar is from Latin calendarium meaning account book. Calends or kalends is a plural noun: first month in the ancient Roman calendar. Calender is a machine used to press and smooth cloth, paper, etc by rollers so that it gives the smoothness or the glazing. Calender functions as a noun and verb. As a verb, calender indicates to press something in a calender.

Calender is derived from French: calendre(r). Countries with multi-religoius societies have national issues over deciding national holidays: which calendar to follow? Colander is a perforated vessel used to strain off liquid; one can also wash off sprigs of coriander!
