Hyderabad: The contract employees in the Aarogyasri Healthcare Trust are forced to continue to work with meagre salaries for the last four years. As if rubbing salt into the wound, the next of kin of employees, who died in harness, are not offered any help by the Trust.

The Telangana State government, according to employees, has been ignoring their plight and their repeated representations to the government have fallen on deaf ears. They have threatened to go on strike if their demands are not met by July 24. The strike notice has already been served in the office of CEO, Aarogyasri Healthcare Trust. They are planning to go on strike from July 25.

“Our major demand is job security irrespective of cadres. We have been working since 2007 and have not been regularised. The majority of employees are in the age group of 34- 36 and now they are not eligible for government jobs,” according to P Chandrasekhar, president of the Telangana Aarogyasri Employees Union Central Forum.

As many as 1,450 employees are working in the State. The employees are forced to work with no hike in wages, long working hours, lack of job security. Apart from it, as many as 120 employees have quit their jobs unable to bear the harassment at the hands of the management.

According to sources, employees were recruited by the Star Health Insurance up to 2011. The staff in the Trust used to secure all benefits then. Later, the responsibility of recruitment was assigned to the District Collector and they, in turn, assigned the role to contract and outsourcing agencies.

The Labour Commissioner told the delegation of the employees that they Labour Department cannot be taken the grievances of them into consideration because the Aarogyamitra was not published in the Gazette. The Union leader said the salaries of the employees were not increased in commensurate with the rising cost of living. How one can live with Rs 6, 000 a month, he asked. Though the loyal and hard-working employees secured national and international awards to the Trust, their lives still remain in misery.
