Chilukuru: Terming Haritha Haaram as Maha Yagnam, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao gave a clarion call to every individual in the State to plant at least two seedlings during the afforestation drive. He said the TRS government would strive to increase green cover up to 33 percent in the State. The Chief Minister launched the prestigious Haritha Haram programme at Chilukuru Balaji Temple in Ranga Reddy district on Friday by planting a sapling in its parking area.



Speaking on the occasion, KCR said the government has launched the Haritha Haaram drive with the blessings of Lord Venkateswara explained that Ananthagiri in Vikarabad had wonderful forestry earlier and there were many medicinal plants. The water used to flow from the medicinal plants to Gandipet lake and it cured illness related problems of city residents at that time. However due to ignorant attitude of erstwhile governments, we lost greenery”, he added.

Planting trees is just not the responsibility of the government, but also every one’s responsibility, Rao said. He said that monkeys, which used to live in forests, are now entering habitations in villages and towns due to absence of trees. They used to eat various types of fruits available in forests but the situation has changed due to deforestation.



Rao appealed to officers to stay put in villages and monitor the completion of the drive. Recalling the initial criticism he faced after raising the separate statehood slogan, KCR said that now Telangana State was a reality. Everyone should work with same determination for the success of Harith Haaram, he stressed. Earlier, Rao and his family members offered prayers to Lord Balaji after reaching Chilkur.



He travelled to the venue in the new luxury bus that the government bought for Rs 5 crore. Real boom in Hyd Later in the day, Rao took part in tree plantation drives in Rajendranagar and Narapally. Addressing a public meeting in Narapally near Ghatkesar he said that none could stop development of Hyderabad under TRS government regime.
