Hyderabad: Keeping in view of the huge potentiality in Andhra Pradesh and the state government’s proactive approach in the implementation of Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation (EE and EC), the Union government is contemplating to make more investments in energy conservation in the State.

The EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Limited, a joint venture company under Ministry of Power) Managing Director Saurabh Kumar said after holding discussions with State energy officials on the implementation of LED bulb distribution , the EESL is planning to invest around Rs 5,000 crore in next five years. For the second phase of DELP (Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme) scheme, bidding process has been initiated and the bids are likely to be opened before July 15.

The official said that the Centre is also keen to study the success story of AP in the implementation of energy efficiency. Secretary to Union Ministry of Power PK Pujari already directed the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and EESL ( Energy Efficiency Services Limited) to submit a detailed report on AP’s initiative in energy conservation, ahead of the cabinet meeting which is set discus the success story of AP in energy efficiency.

“Centre is determined to make AP as most energy efficient state in the country. The Union Minister of Power Piyush Goyal prefers to discuss the success story of AP in energy efficiency in the cabinet meeting soon,” the official said. Saurabh informed state Energy Secretary Ajay Jain that several global financial institutions like KFW have agreed in principle to provide a loan of around Rs 1,500 crore to EESL for taking up EE activities in the country, wherein major portion will be invested in AP for expediting the DELP and street lighting programme implemented in four districts already on pilot basis by distributing about 56.5 lakh LED bulbs.
