A unique lecture on ‘Clown Acting’ was held in the city on Sunday at IIIT which was conducted by Prof. Maya Tengeberg from Finland. The professor was invited by Dr G Kumara Swamy, a lecturer in Theatre Arts at IIIT.

“This is a first-of-its-kind event in the city. I met Professor Maya at National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, Beijing, in 2012. On her short India visit here, we planned for this one day workshop.

We got a tremendous response from young actors who would like to explore new dimensions of performing physicality with unique style of acting in theatre or in films,” said Kumara Swamy. Born in Switzerland, Maya did theatre studies in Paris and mastered Clown and Mask Acting from Lecole Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq.

She did her PhD in Physical Theatre with a Special emphasis on Kathakali and Mohiniyattam. Maya did professional work as a director, performer and pedagogue in almost the whole of Europe.
