Kapus keep away from Congress; Reddys to call shots
The recent exit of senior leader D Srinivas (DS), the sacking of the first TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah post 2014 election and another senior leader Nethi Vidyasagar joining the TRS for denying a key role in the party may dent into the Congress base in the Telangana state.

Hyderabad: The recent exit of senior leader D Srinivas (DS), the sacking of the first TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah post 2014 election and another senior leader Nethi Vidyasagar joining the TRS for denying a key role in the party may dent into the Congress base in the Telangana state.

All these leaders belong to the Kapu community. The people of the community feel “ill treated” by the Congress by driving the leaders out of the party. An impression has gained ground that the Congress could have turned against the community to promote Reddys. The Kapus in Telangana have been closely associated with the Congress for decades. In fact, the Congress had given prominent positions in the party, including that of APCC chief post in the united Andhra Pradesh.
For example, V Hanumantha Rao, K Keshav Rao and D Srinivas were made party chiefs in the undivided AP. After the creation of Telangana, Lakshmaiah was elevated as the first TPCC chief. Vidyasagar Rao, who was Deputy Chairman of AP legislative Council, joined the TRS post formation of Telangana
The Kapu community is the second dominating force after Reddys in the Telangana State. The recent political developments, particularly targeting the leaders belonging to Kapu community and promoting Reddy’s in the party, may estrange the former from the party. The fresh controversy over not inviting Greater Hyderabad Congress President D Nagendar, one of the prominent Kapu leader in Telangana, to the division- level meetings organised by the TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy and CLP leader K Jana Reddy, raised many an eye brow.
Nagendar even threatened to complain to AICC President Sonia Gandhi against a section of the TPCC leaders. Party leader said that following recent political developments, Kapus support to the Congress was getting eroded. The touch-and-go attitude being adopted by Lakshmaiah after being divested of post of TPCC president and Nagender’s fulminations against a section of the party leadership is described as an indication of crisis in the party.
Speculation is rife that Lakshmaiah may quit the Congress. He told The Hans India that he had felt unhappy over senior leaders deserting the party. Sources said that the second rung Kapu leaders in the party had already raised a banner of revolt against the dominance of Reddys in the Congress party in the districts. Kapus, who were playing a key role in Congress in Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Warangal districts are said to be seeking greener pastures.
