The Andhra Pradesh Language Teachers Association (SLTA) demanded the State government to end discrimination against them in service conditions and promotions. In a memorandum submitted to the government, here on Tuesday, the SLTA president P Satyanarayana said that the Right to Education Act 2009 stipulates that in every high school teaching should be done by teachers of school assistants’ level.

In a memorandum submitted to the government, here on Tuesday, the SLTA president P Satyanarayana said that the Right to Education Act 2009 stipulates that in every high school teaching should be done by teachers of school assistants’ level.


But, in most of the high schools in the state, the languages were being taught by Secondary Grade Teachers (SGTs). The new GOs had benefited a few among the Telugu language pandits. But, at the same time, it had also imposed a limitation in the promotion of teachers, having post graduate qualifications in languages, depriving their eligibility to become School Assistants, resulting in SGT’s carrying on their job of teaching languages, he said.


Also, those who have completed their Hindi Praveena, Madhyama, Visarada and Vidwan course in oriental stream, and completed the methodology course equivalent to Bachelor of Education were not given a chance to become school assistants’, he pointed out.
