The Telangana state government that was considering Parade Grounds as the venue for the official Independence Day celebrations this year is again in view of Golconda fort. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao last year unfurled the national flag at Golconda fort celebrating the first Independence Day in the new state.

The government last week informed the officials to arrange for the Independence Day festivities at Parade Ground but the plan has been revised back to the fort.

Following the orders, the city police officials visited the fort on Tuesday to discuss the security arrangements. All the details regarding the entry-exit points to parking facilities were sought by Additional DGP Sudeep Lakhtakia, IG Srinivasa Rao, West Zone DCP Venkateshwar Rao, Golconda inspector Khaleel Pasha and Asifnagar ACP Gouse Moinduddin who visited the fort.

Headed by chief secretary Rajiv Sharma, a coordination committee of various departments has been formed to seek permission from the Archeologicial Survey of India and the defence ministry for the event to be held at the Fort. The state Government plans to build a helipad near the Golconda fort once the ownership of the land is obtained. The Chief Minister will be able to fly directly and the fort will be made a permanent venue for the Independence Day celebrations.
