The deep depression over north-east Bay of Bengal moved north-westwards during the last nine hours, intensified into a cyclonic storm, Komen, and lay centred at 8.30 am 300 km east-southeast of Kolkata. The system will move north-north-westwards and cross the Bangla coast by the afternoon. After landfall, it will move west-northwest-wards and weaken gradually.

Heavy rain forecast in nine coastal districts for three days

Hyderabad: The deep depression over north-east Bay of Bengal moved north-westwards during the last nine hours, intensified into a cyclonic storm, Komen, and lay centred at 8.30 am 300 km east-southeast of Kolkata. The system will move north-north-westwards and cross the Bangla coast by the afternoon. After landfall, it will move west-northwest-wards and weaken gradually.


Under its influence, heavy rain will occur at isolated places in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East & West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts from July 31 to August 2, the Met office warned on Thursday. The Met report said the trough from Odisha to south Tamil Nadu across coastal Andhra Pradesh is persisting.


The forecast said moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers will occur at a few places in coastal Andhra Pradesh. There will be light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Rayalaseema. Rain or thundershowers will occur at a few places in coastal Andhra Pradesh on July 31. Isolated rain or thundershowers may occur in Telangana and Rayalaseema.


According to the Met report, rain or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on August 1. On August 2 and 3 there will be rain or thundershowers at many places in Telangana and at a few places in Andhra Pradesh.During the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Thursday, rain/thundershowers occurred at isolated places in Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.

There was one cm of rainfall each in Birkoor and Jukkal. The minimum temperatures were above normal by two-¬three degrees Celsius at many places in coastal Andhra Pradesh. The cloud imagery of 2.30 pm shows convective clouds over some parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, south-east Arabian sea, north & adjoining central Bay.
