Hyderabad: The BJP, which wants to strengthen its position in Andhra Pradesh and emerge as a force to reckon with by 2019, seems to be preparing the ground slowly but steadily distancing itself from its ally, the TDP.Alleging that the TDP was not following alliance dharma, BJP MLC Somu Veerraju on Tuesday said Telugu Desam leaders, who have been making a lot of noise about the special status for the state, should also talk about the benefits it had got from the Centre.

“Unfortunately, neither the ministers nor the leaders are making any mention about the benefits the State gets from the Centre,’ he said. “Instead, they are trying to project the BJP in a bad light,” he felt. In this context, Veerraju has posed several questions to the TD leaders. He said the party leadership should explain why they were blaming the BJP over the issue of special status.

It appears that they want to create an impression that the Centre was not considerate to Andhra Pradesh. This apparently is a move to cover up their failures, he said. He said if the State was really facing a cash crunch, how did it manage to waive Rs 10,000 crore crop loans and how did it spend Rs 1600 crore for Godavari Maha Pushkaralu.

AP had become a state where power is available 24x7. This could not have been possible without the Centre’s help, he said. Similarly, the Centre had given Rs 10,000 crore to overcome revenue deficit, he added.
