HC bifurcation on fast track
Just as it picked up the \'right time\' to react in case of Andhra Pradesh, the Centre chose to assuage the feelings of the Telangana MPs protesting over the delay in the bifurcation of the High Court. This issue was pending fire since day one and the Centre\'s reaction was all said and done luke warm at best, it could be said.
MPs voice concern in Lok Sabha
New Delhi: Just as it picked up the 'right time' to react in case of Andhra Pradesh, the Centre chose to assuage the feelings of the Telangana MPs protesting over the delay in the bifurcation of the High Court. This issue was pending fire since day one and the Centre's reaction was all said and done luke warm at best, it could be said.
On Tuesday when at least a part business of the House was possible in the shadow of suspensions of the Opposition members, the Government was in no mood to turn down the pleas of the Telangana MPs and with the Chair permitting them to make their mentions during Zero hour, Telangana MPs including Jitender Reddy, forcefully presented the case of bifurcation of the High Court.
They highlighted their grievance and also the injustice being done to the Telangana advocates and people in general. However, anticipating some conduct of the Business, the Centre had come prepared in this regard. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had already spoken to Law Minister Sadananda Gowda on it and equipped himself with the "right info".
The Government was in a way positive that the TRS, a rival by all means, would not walk over along with the Opposition over the suspension of the Congress members. Minister for Rural Development M Venkaiah Naidu also said that in principle the government was of the opinion that the High Court should be bifurcated.
Only the modalities were to be worked out. It wanted to convince the TRS leadership in a mellowed fashion highlighting the technicalities and succeeded in doing so to a large extent. However, it now needs much prodding from the TRS members to get the 'sub-judice' hitch crossed over. Whether the matter of the bifurcation being sub-judice is really the root cause of the delay or it is just an alibi for the Centre to maintain the status quo for some more time is to be seen.
The BJP after all needs the support of as many parties as possible in the Parliament. The TRS MPs led by Jithender Reddy soon after the House adjourned met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, when the latter sought to understand the issue better. They reportedly explained to him that the matter being sub-judice was not the real cause and there were extraneous considerations involved in delaying the process of bifurcation at the earliest. They pleaded with him to adopt a Cabinet route to the issue than explore other avenues.
