It is one of those rare occasions where an American invasion does not involve nukes, oil or even democracy. In less than six months of entering the Indian smartphone market, InFocus has been introducing new phones at an aggressive pace. Suiting both the budget and the feature-hungry needs of the Indian consumers, the US-based company has always appeared to be pretty desperate in making a mark for itself in a market increasingly dominated by Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Asus.

Kudos to their first phone, M2 which was priced at Rs 4,999, the phone had everything that gave everyone else a headache. While the M2 still remains the best entrylevel smartphone with the smartest features, what we today have is the latest InFocus M810, possibly the Elvis among smartphones; closer home it is the Bappi Lahiri that comes at Rs 15k (and it is not ‘karat’ either).

The phone comes wrapped in gold. This is probably the USP for M810. It is well-built with beautiful looks borrowed from Sony’s Xperia Z series of smartphones. Front and back of the handset boasts of tough Corning Gorilla Glass 3, whereas the full rim around the display is made of metal alloy making the M810 appear premium.

Positioned in the sub Rs 15,000 price category, it will take on Xiaomi Mi 4i and Asus ZenFone 2. Unlike other smartphones available for a similar price, the InFocus M810 boasts a 6.99mm metal frame, which is usually seen in mid-budget smartphone category. The InFocus M810 flaunts a 5.5-inch, 1080x1920 pixels display and runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system overlaid with home baked InLine UI.

Powered by a SnapDragon 801 SoC, the InFocus M810 packs 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM, which is expandable up to 64GB. Equipped with a 13 MP main camera with a true tone LED flash and a 5 MP front camera, the phone claims to deliver exceptional photo quality boosted by an unbeatable portrait enhancer.

Running on Android Lollipop, InFocus has layered its own apps that take up some space out of 16 GB storage on offer. One of the pros of the device is that it comes with OTG support - a feature much needed for flexible access to data.

Verdict

The Infocus M810 comes packed with a powerful well-known hardware with a beautiful outer body. The hardware heats up with heavy usage and you also feel the heat because of the metal body. The selling models are not 4G LTE, which is not a good thing also the handset feels slippery but pretty tough. It is one of the best phones in the segment, with premium looks and value for money.
