Racold Thermo, the leading manufacturer and seller of water heaters in India, is on a major expansion drive for its solar water heating business in India. Plans are to enhance the production capacities, new product introductions and aggressive marketing and communication activities.

At present, the solar water heater business contributes to ~25% of the overall Racold business in India. With this expansion, it will further its contribution to 35% in the next 3 years. The expansion is aimed to meet Racold’s domestic as well as exports requirement for 2-3 years horizon.

Keeping in line with the global vision of its parent company – Ariston Group of having 80% of revenues from renewable / energy efficient products by 2020, Racold Thermo ventured in the solar water heater business in 2003. Since then, Racold has reached a leadership position through a concentrated mix of sales and marketing initiatives across India.

Currently, Racold is exporting solar products to Middle East and Africa and also aims to augment Indian factory so that it becomes one of the key strategic sourcing locations for producing Solar water Heaters for Indian and global market.

Apart from enhancing the existing range of SWH to provide cutting edge solutions to Indian consumers, Racold has recently launched a comprehensive range of ‘heat pump water heater’ solutions to provide energy efficient and reliable solutions to Indian consumers.

Commenting on the business expansion, Mr Mathew Job, Managing Director, Racold Thermo said, “Racold has been the most preferred choice for solar water heaters in India. Although Maharashtra and Karnataka are among the most important markets for solar businesses, we see encouraging response from other states in North and Central india too.

Solar water heater business is one of the strongest pillars of growth for Racold and we aim to strengthen our market position through strategic initiatives on industrial (manufacturing) as well as market sides”.

Mr Nitin Sangle, General Manager, Renewable energy added “Racold recently introduced its heat pump water heater domestic range in India and have been able to achieve encouraging volumes .

We have also successfully launched the commercial range of heat pump water heaters in order to enhance our renewable products portfolio catering to the specific needs of segments like hospitality, hospitals and other big commercial applications”, he further added.

Enhancing existing range in domestic, introducing new product range in commercial heat pump water heaters, consolidation of existing dealer network to reach to new markets, explore new application segments like Solar water heater solutions for industrial (factory) application are among the immediate priorities for Racold.
Note to the editors:
Solar water heaters are widely used in residential & commercial segments. The commercial segments are large consumers of hot water and they consume a lot of traditional energy sources like electricity or fuel like diesel or gas which are very expensive as well as environmentally unfriendly as it results in emission of gases like CO2. There is a notable shift among commercial users wherein many of them have started showing preferences to opt for green products like solar water heaters wherever they can integrate it in their applications. The accrued savings in fuel bills make a very compelling case of attractive payback periods of 18-30 months for various domestic and commercial applications of SWH.
The key focus areas for the industry should be improving 3 A’s: Awareness, Availability and Affordability. Industry should work on all these three fronts to create sustainable success.
· Awareness should be largely driven through marketing initiatives of on-ground activities & media campaigns
· Availability should be addressed through geographical expansion
· The affordability of SWH for Indian consumers has significantly improved in recent times because of the technological advancements led cost reductions.
