Govt to spend 100 crore for auto trolleys

CM okays purchase of 2,500 autos, 1,500 tricycles
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao approved the trolley auto model to be utilised by GHMC for solid waste management in twin cities. The government will be spending Rs 100 crore for buying 2,500 autos in the next two months. GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar showed a trolley auto model to the Chief Minister at the latter’s residence in Begumpet.
Each auto, costing Rs 3.88 lakh, comprises two separations; one for transporting dry waste and another wet waste. Each auto could collect waste from 600 to 800 houses in one trip. Also, lift facility to easily dump the garbage load collected and inbuilt overhead cover are some of the additional features in this vehicle.
Further, Rao directed GHMC to procure 1,500 tricycles that could be used for collecting garbage from houses in basthis. He earlier asked the civic body to procure 44 lakh dust bins to be given to each of the 22 lakh households in twin cities (two bins per house) so that they could put dry and wet waste separately.
Chandrashekar Rao recalled the commitment made by the TRS government, during Swachh Hyderabad, to streamline the waste management system in the State capital. Further, he stated that tenders had been called for clearing construction debris and other garbage material seen in various parts of the city.
