He said 15 metric tonnes of seeds will be sprayed from helicopters in capital region for two days to develop it as green capital.


Speaking on the occasion, he said that a target was set to plant 500 crore saplings in the coming five years with the participation of both the government and people. He said over 150 metric tonnes of seeds are ready and if necessary seeds will be procured from other States.

Naidu said that they are seeking assistance from Visakhapatnam port trust to take up the aerial seeding programme. If necessary they would carry out the programme with chartered helicopters. He also said the officials will monitor the protection of plants through geo-tagging.

He appealed to people to protect the plants in public places and urged people to come forward to plant saplings on their birthdays and other occasions. Minister for Forest Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy said that the Krishnapatnam port and CVR foundation came forward to take up the programme at a cost of Rs 50 lakh.

Chief Secretary of Forest Department A K Farida said the forest officials identified 27 places in forest region for aerial seeding including 1,080 hectares in Guntur district and 347.67 hectares in Krishna district. He said the aerial seeding would be conducted in forest and revenue lands in Krishna district, Kondaveedu, Pedamaddur, Korlapudi and Tadepalli and 17 other places in Guntur district.

Krishnapatnam port chairman C Visweswara Rao, Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, MLC Budda Venkanna, principal chief conservator of forests AV Joseph and others were present.
