Hyderabad: Outbreak of gastroenteritis in certain parts of Tandur in Ranga Reddy district has claimed the lives of four and 84 residents are undergoing treatment at the district hospital since August 26. Water contamination was the major reason for the acute gastroenteritis, according to Superintendent of the District Hospital Dr Shekhar.


“Patients were coming from the Tandur municipality areas, Yalaal, Peddemul and Bahseerbabad mandals,” he said.However, Tandu Municipality Commissioner Gopaiah denied that there has been any contamination of water. He claimed that people were affected with gastroenteritis due to poor personal hygiene. “Tandur Muncipality water is safe. There was no waterline leakage,” he clarified.


Despite citizens of Tandur were complaining about contamination of water in Gollacheruvu, Indranagar, Seetarampet and Gandhinagar areas, authorities were not taking any action, it is learnt. Those who died have been identified as Bhemappa (40), Bhavani (10) of Golla Cheruvu, Sayed Mahabub (14) of Indranagar and Narsimhulu (30) of Saipur.
