Karimnagar: Major Irrigation and Marketing Minister T Harish Rao informed that with a view to provide crop storage facility for the farmers, the State government has decided to construct godowns with a storage capacity of 17 lakh metric tonnes at an expenditure of Rs 1,024 crore in the State.


Participating in various developmental programmes in Metpalli and Ibrahimpatnam mandals on Monday, the Minister said there would be a godown in every mandal headquarters. Informing that Rs 106 crore was sanctioned to construct 36 godowns in Karimnagar district, he said all the structures would be completed in the next six months period.


Drought like situation was prevailed in the State due to the drastically decline of trees and forest cover. About one lakh cusecs of water from Kaleshwaram and 2 lakh cusecs from Bayyaram and Dummugudem has gone waste into sea, he opined. With a view to utilise every drop of water, the government has decided to alter the old projects and construct new ones wherever water was available and supply water to agricultural fields.


The Minister informed water will be taken from Mid Manair and Sri Ram Sagar Projects by constructing irrigation project at Kaleshwarm. Stating that Rs 17 crore farm loan amounts were waived off, he assured to provide Rs 12 crore pending bills of sugarcane farmers. The government has taken up Mission Kakatiya programme to revive minor irrigations source, Harish Rao said and informed that about Rs 400 crore would be spend in the district in the next financial year.


Harish Rao also participated in a meeting organised by farmers and commission agents at Chelgal Market yard. The Minister assured of developing Chelgal Rajiv Gandhi Mango market, which was neglected by the previous governments. He promised to provide basic facilities to the market by coordinating with industries, horticulture and agriculture departments.
