Pandemonium in Assembly

Hyderabad: Miffed over the manner in which the YSRCP stalled the proceedings of the monsoon session of the AP Assembly on Monday and the way the leader of Opposition made ‘derogatory’ remarks against the chair, the ruling TDP is learnt to have decided to ensure that no such incidents take place from Tuesday.

According to chief whip Kalva Srinivasulu and other leaders, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu told them to take steps so that such pandemonium should not be repeated in the House. The reaction from the treasury benches should come fast and, if necessary, they should prevail upon the Chair to suspend the unruly members forthwith at least for the day, Naidu suggested.
The TDLP felt that the YSRCP was deliberately stalling the proceedings hoping to get some political mileage and was not serious about discussions. Naidu is learnt to have said that despite the government coming forward to discuss all issues, including the Special Status, the Opposition was trying to indulge in mudslinging and was not allowing even the leader of the House to make his statement.

Referring to the recent incidents of suicide for the Special Status, Naidu said that some people in an emotional state had resorted to such an extreme step. It was the responsibility of the Assembly to send a message to the people not to end their lives and for that the Opposition should have cooperated with the government.

They should have first passed the condolence resolution and could have launched a political attack during the discussion. But the ‘directionless’ Opposition was behaving in an unruly manner, he said. Naidu said, Leader of the Opposition does not follow the rules and makes baseless allegations. “There is a limit for tolerance,” he said.

Some TDP leaders expressed the view that Jagan wanted the TDP to pull out their ministers from the Modi Cabinet so that he, along with the TRS, could move closer to the NDA and get relief from the CBI cases. Concurring with this view, Naidu has said the TDP is concerned about the people’s interests and does not run after power.

Earlier Naidu, while making his statement on the Special Status in the House, said it was the YSRCP which was responsible for the bifurcation of the state and that Jagan and Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy who had also given notice for no-confidence against the NDA withdrew it in the last minute for reasons best known to them.
