It not only aims at encouraging people to give but also celebrates the notion of giving and the joy derived from it. Launched in 2009 as a ‘Festival of Giving’ across India, the Joy of Giving Week has brought together people from all walks of life. The Daan Utsav Week is wholly driven by a large group of volunteers from all over the country.

Speaking at an event, Jayesh Ranjan, IT Secretary, said, “The State will fully support the biggest Festival of Giving in India. All IT companies, enthusiastically participate in the various events during Daan Utsav and make substantial contributions, striving to make our society more equitable”.

Some of the major events planned for Hyderabad Daan Utsav are Seva Mela by You See and United Way of Hyderabad on Oct 4 and 5; ‘Food For Change’ by Round Tablers; ‘Peace Ride’ by The Atlanta Foundation; ‘Gift Compassion’ by Adhya Educational Society; ‘Shadow a CEO’ by Indian School of Business; ‘7 days 7 Givings’ by several corporates, colleges and Rotary Clubs.

Actor Vijay Deverakonda of ‘Yevade Subramanyam’ fame, says, “I think each of us has our own reasons to give. Some give because they don't need stuff anymore, some give because they are just generous and selfless and yet others give because it just gives them a pride of doing something, a selfish joy.”
