Mahindra XUV500 Automatic to be launched in January 2016. At the launch of the new Mahindra XUV500 the company had said that there are two more variants in the offing - a hybrid and an automatic. While we don\'t have much information about the former, we know the automatic variant is set to launch in a few months.

At the launch of the new Mahindra XUV500 the company had said that there are two more variants in the offing - a hybrid and an automatic. While we don't have much information about the former, we know the automatic variant is set to launch in a few months.
The company plans to launch the XUV500 in the automatic avatar by January, 2016, and we think it will make for a strong statement in a segment that is starved for a car with an auto-box. Just so you know, the XUV500 automatic version has already been confirmed for the Australian market.
Though Mahindra has already introduced the automatic variants on the Scorpio, the XUV500 won't be getting the same gearbox. The company is looking at bringing in a new gearbox.
Mahindra has already sold over 1 lakh units of the XUV500, and the addition of an auto-box will hopefully further augment the SUV's sales. As far as the XUV500's powerplant goes, we do not foresee any changes. The company will carry forward the 2.2 mHawk diesel engine that develops 140bhp.
