Cabinet okays 81k cr spend on pending irrigation projects
The Telangana Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, on Wednesday, decided on reorganisation of districts allotting Rs 81,000 crore for completing irrigation projects and holding monsoon session of Assembly from September 23.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, on Wednesday, decided on reorganisation of districts allotting Rs 81,000 crore for completing irrigation projects and holding monsoon session of Assembly from September 23.
Elaborating on details after the four-hour long meeting, KCR stated that government would be spending Rs 81,000 crore over the next three-and-half years on construction of various irrigation projects in the State.
Also, government was working on a new irrigation policy which would be announced later this month. To expedite Kaleshwaram and Palmoor projects, government would float two separate ‘authorities’. Meanwhile, he dismissed concerns of Congress party about missing national recognition status if Pranahita-Chevella project was redesigned. "KCR is known as Telangana crusader and he will not take any decision that will harm interests of the State," the Chief Minister stressed.
In line with the promise made in election manifesto, decision was taken to go for reorganisation of districts. A four-member panel led by Chief Secretary and senior IAS officers was appointed to study the proposal and give recommendations. While the average population under each district in the country was around 19 lakh, in Telangana nearly 35 lakh population make up each district.
The Cabinet also deliberated on housing for poor scheme. The TRS government is planning to build 67,000 houses in ten districts this year. While the cost of each unit of 560 sft area would be 5.04 lakh in rural areas, in urban areas it would be Rs 5.30 lakh, he said. Commenting on pending housing bills, KCR stated that Collectors were told to enquire about veracity of beneficiaries and clear genuine bills.
The cabinet also approved caste-based reservation system in the appointment of nominated Chairmen and Director posts in all Agricultural Market Committees in the State from this year. Out of 183 marketing committees, 13 would be reserved for STs in the agency areas. Reservations would be given to BCs, SCs and STs in the remaining 170 committees.
The reservation would be implemented through lottery system this year. Each market committee would have one Chairman and 15 to 20 directors. From next year onwards, rotation policy would be implemented and the 85 committees that were under general category would come under reservation category, the Chief Minister added.
