Hyderabad: Thursday marks a significant day for the football fraternity in the State, more so for those in Hyderabad. Two ‘avid’ football fans and Wharton School graduates are responding to the call of roots and doing their bit to redeem lost of their city with the launch of Fateh Hyderabad Associated Football Club (FHAFC).

Reflecting on his association with the beautiful game that goes beyond Indian shores, co-owner Yogesh Maurya (the other being Aditya Narayanan), told reporters here on Thursday that their keenness to promote football at the grassroots level received a shot in the arm when the Telangana Football Association (TFA) agreed to accommodate FHAFC in I-League second division apart from the Rahim ‘A’ League.

Dr Mohammed Ali Rafat and GP Palguna, the President and Secretary of TFA while welcoming them into the fold said it augured well for football overall. Maurya pointed out “We will invest in developing infrastructure to nurture the sport’s growth and focus on youth development at the grassroots level,, including in tapping rural talent.”

He said that the Club would endeavour to hone the skills of budding footballers, particularly in the Under-13, 15, 18 and 20 years age-group so that they could rise up the national ladder. The squad will comprise of players from the nooks and corners of the country, although the majority will be from in and around Hyderabad.
