Guntur: All arrangements were made at Nallapadu road on the city outskirts for YSRCP president and Opposition Leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s indefinite fast (Deeksha).
The YSRCP chief will launch the fast at 11 am on Wednesday. This was disclosed by YSRCP leader and former minister Botcha Satyanarayana.
Jagan decided to undertake the fast to exert pressure on the Centre to fulfil its commitment to provide special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
He also has been demanding that the Centre should also provide other benefits to the State as promised in the AP Reorganisation Act.
Y S Jagan would arrive at 9 am at Gannavaram airport and after seeking blessings of Goddess Kanakadurga in Vijayawada, he would proceed to the venue of the Deeksha in Guntur and commence his fast.
Addressing a press conference at the Deeksha site here on Tuesday, Botcha said that the Telugu Desam Party and the BJP which are partners in coalition governments in the State and at the Centre should have taken the lead for extracting special status from the Central government but on the contrary the TDP leaders had been denouncing the Deeksha planned by Jagan for the cause of the people of the State.
Instead of supporting the cause of the State, they have started a mud-slinging campaign against the YSRCP president, he added.
The YSRCP leader regretted that instead of supporting the fast of Jaganmohan Reddy, they have chosen to dilute the demand saying that special status alone cannot provide for the financial resources.
Botcha expressed the hope that the Centre would respond positively to the Deeksha and make an announcement in this regard.
He also had a dig at the TDP leaders for accusing Jagan of having vested interests in opposing the Bhogapuram airport land acquisition.
Such cheap statements do not auger well for them and if proved that their charges are unfounded, those leaders should quit politics, he demanded.
