Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Thursday indicated that elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation might be held in January 2016 and 50 percent seats in the GHMC would be allocated to women.

Addressing the TRS Legislature Party meeting at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, KCR asked the party cadre to gear up for the elections. He said the chances of TRS retaining the Warangal Lok Sabha in the byelections were 67%. Similarly,

the TRS has 52% chances of winning the Narayankhed Assembly seat, where a byelection is necessitated due to the demise of sitting Congress MLA P Kista Reddy.

The Telangana government will continue with the earlier practice of 50 percent reservation for women in GHMC elections.

According to GHMC officials, it has been decided to continue with the old practice that has been in vogue in the undivided Andhra Pradesh of providing 50 percent reservation for women.

They said the 50 percent reservation system has been already implemented in five Municipal Corporations in Ramagundam, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Khammam and Warangal.

The officials said the Municipal Corporation has finished about 90 percent reorganisation of wards in the city limits.
