Jamia Millia to offer lateral entry to Indian Navy personnel
Indian Navy personnel and officers will now be be able to take lateral entry in various academic courses offered at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) under a special arrangement between the varsity and the Navy.

New Delhi: Indian Navy personnel and officers will now be be able to take lateral entry in various academic courses offered at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) under a special arrangement between the varsity and the Navy.
University officials said JMI will recognise the in-service training and courses offered to Navy personnel and officers through credit determination.
The admission to Jamia courses would be through the centre for distance and open learning and will lead to award of degrees on fulfillment of statutory requirements.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Navy and the university yesterday to provide vertical and academic mobility to its personnel and officers.
"The MoU entered into by the two institutions records mutual intent for academic collaboration between JMI and Indian Navy for academic and technical advancement and progression of Indian Navy personnel and officers," a varsity official said.
"The Indian Navy conducts ab-initio/in-service training programmes for its personnel at training centres across the country.
The recognition of that training and courses following credit determination would make the officers eligible for admission in JMI for various academic programmes," the official added.
Jamia would appoint a Joint-Equivalence Committee for credit determination for all theoretical and practical components of academic-cum-training programmes in the Navy.
"The agreement has been reached keeping in mind that the personnel who superannuate from Naval service in their early thirties will have an opportunity to begin second-innings of active service in national life on acquisition of undergraduate degrees," they said.
"We will also be able to explore joint collaborative projects that would enable Indian Navy to share its expertise and technical know-how with Jamia students and reciprocally benefit from university’s resources and competencies for promotion of vertical and academic mobility of the officers," he added.
The university had in August this year worked out a similar arrangement with the Indian Air Force (IAF) as well.
