Harish Rao to meet Maharashtra counterpart today

A day after Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao approved Chanakha-Korata barrage near Penganga project in Adilabad, at the cost of Rs 368 crore, State Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has decided to meet his Maharashtra counterpart to sort out pending issues regarding water sharing between the two States.

Hyderabad: A day after Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao approved Chanakha-Korata barrage near Penganga project in Adilabad, at the cost of Rs 368 crore, State Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has decided to meet his Maharashtra counterpart to sort out pending issues regarding water sharing between the two States.

A delegation, led by Harish Rao, including Forest Minister J Ramanna, State Adviser (Irrigation) Vidyasagar Rao and irrigation officials will meet the representatives of Maharashtra government in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The Telangana delegation will seek all-round co-operation from Maharashtra to complete the project in two years. TS government has been demanding the neighbouring State to allow the utilisation of Penganga river water under the new barrage. Around 50,000 acres of land will come under new irrigation once the project is completed.
